this is the sixth post about my journey of vocal recovery. read the story from the beginning.
this will be my last blog post for a while about my voice challenges. i feel like writing about other things now. 🙂
my vocal journey continues, and i feel i’m headed in the right direction. during my last follow-up with the ent doctor, i reiterated that i had seen (heard) no benefit at all from the two times we injected my vocal cords. i understand how it’s supposed to work, in theory, and it seemed like a good idea; however, in practice, it didn’t seem to help at all (except for getting rid of the bump).
i still get hoarse sometimes, especially when i do a lot of talking and/or spend time in cold environments. breathing in cold air always accelerates the loss or degradation of my voice. unfortunately, that’s going to be a bigger challenge in the coming months, as we head into winter. (although texas air conditioning can make this a challenge even in the summer months.) 🙂
yesterday, i hadn’t had enough sleep (that’s another story), then i had a co-writing session in the afternoon with robin hackett. by evening, my speaking voice was pretty rough, and yet, i was still able to sing at the nsai showcase. i felt pretty good about it, too. so this feels like improvement to me.
i continue to practice the techniques i learned from the speech therapist, as well as some things i’ve modified or worked out for myself. i’m doing vocal warmups and voice building exercises, as well as attending to vocal hygiene.
i’m looking forward to some upcoming gigs. i’m delighted and honored to be opening the show for kristy kruger‘s first music performance in three years. this will be at opening bell coffee on saturday, dec 2. i hope you can come see me and hear the progress i’ve been making.
Right on! Glad you are making healthy progress. Hugs!
hello are you there?
